Day Eighty-Five

Time I left home:

This is my last commute of 2011!  My, how fast 85 days goes by.  I'm really grateful for starting this blog...it was supposed to help jump-start my creativity and help me start writing in other ways and I believe that it has.  Good times.  So many other books and blogs to be written in the world...just need to grab a pen and some paper and get it out of my brain.  This is actually what I was thinking about on my commute this morning.  The reality of the new year is going to be hard when I have to sit in a lot of traffic again.  Tis life, I think.  I wish everyone out there Happy Holidays (bonus that Hanukkah, Christmas, the Winter Solstice, and Kwanzaa all overlap this year) and joy, meaning. purpose, and love in the New Year...

Day Eighty-Four

Time I left home:

Ha ha ha...It's the 19th and I left my house in the 19th minute.  I'm so amazing! :>  Nothing exciting or even interesting to report.  There was a big accident on the outer loop and all of us inner loop people just kept on driving.  I love that.  Go us!

Day Eighty-Three

Time I left home:

The College closed last night, so it's Stress-Free Staff Day on campus...meaning that I got to work-out this morning at a "normal" hour, do some errands, and come to campus a bit later than usual.  Everything was going smoothly until I hit Target and learned of some changes to my prescription.  Luckily, the person at the register was super nice: willing to talk with me and we had talked before...gave me a discount and everything.  Good times had by all :>

Day Eighty-Two

Time I left home:

I'm telling you...this time of year is having very similar qualities to commutes in the summer.  I am loving it...every moment of it...love coming off me to all the people who've decided not to go to work!  I love ya'll.  Thank you.

Day Eighty-One

Time I left home:

Apparently everyone is still taking time off this week and I am loving it!! The roads are open, we all get to drive the speed limit (or higher), and people are being smart...at least on my part of the commute.  Love it.  My friend (first) and Co-worker (second) bought me a bacon, egg, and cheese on egg bagel for breakfast today.  It was the best.  Gotta love exam week.

Day Eighty

Time I left home:

This has to be one of the best Tuesday commutes ever!  I cannot believe it.  I mean, really.  It's Tuesday!  I stopped one time in the upper northwest corner and then just drove and drove and drove.  Perhaps it was because I didn't have my early meeting today or because the sun was out, or I found the sweet spot of timing leaving my house.  Who knows?  I love that sweet spot.

Day Seventy-Nine

Friday, I left home at:

Had the day off work, so went up for Bikram and enjoyed a delightful spa-day with a friend and colleague on behalf of our orientation staff!  Yay for great students!

Time I arrived:

12/12: I left home at:

It's Monday of exam week and it sure felt like it.  The traffic wasn't so bad, except right when I entered the beltway and the rest of the drive was pleasant.  I was a bit tired today and forgot that I would have to warm-up my car...hence the little bit of lateness.

Day Seventy-Eight

Time I left home:

The good news today is that I got in the car just as the traffic report was being done and I learned that I needed to change my route right from the start today.  Yay for good timing.  Not so bad once I figured that out and it is nice to do things differently sometimes.  I enjoyed the sun being out and the way people drove today.  Let's hope it's a sign for a good day.

Day Seventy-Seven

Time I left home:

Sometimes leaving the house a bit late because it's raining and you think traffic will be better is a good idea...sometimes, it isn't.  Like today.  It wasn't better.  Also, I realized about halfway through my commute that the hypnotist Paul Ramsey (who performs during the orientation program I run) was correct about being able to self-hypnotize while driving...except that I did it while I was in bumper-to-bumper.  Probably not the best idea.  I missed all the traffic updates and barely heard the songs this morning...my mind was elsewhere...

Day Seventy-Six

Time I left home:

Despite the rain and therefore, longer commute than usual...traffic wasn't so bad.  The music on the radio was nice and people weren't being obnoxious.  Gotta love that for a Tuesday.

Day Seventy-Five

Time I left home:

Sometimes, after a delightfully low-key weekend, I feel much more ready for the work week than others...today, I woke up while it was still dark outside and got to enjoy about an hour and a half of snoozing in bed.  Delightful.  I'm sure I'll be exhausted tonight because of it.  Oh well.  Traffic was surprisingly light today.  People were actually driving nicely.  One car, however, thought it would take advantage of the light traffic and drive up on everyone's bumper.  Why do cars do that sometimes?

Day Seventy-Four

Time I left home:

Traffic wasn't so bad today...there were a couple accidents that caused people to pause and wait...most of the beltway was smooth sailing.  Good news for a Friday.

Day Seventy-Three

Time I left home:

Happy December!  Remember that one time when I said that traffic isn't so bad when I don't have a meeting I have to go to?  Yep, well, today...I had an 8:30 with a student and was already running late because at 4:45 a.m. my cat decides to hairball on my bed, then somewhere else in the house...so I was cleaning that up and trying to find the other location and realized that I needed to go back to sleep.  Needless to say, I was running late this morning.

Fast forward about 12 minutes and on the beltway, traffic stops almost 2 minutes up the road and I realize that I'm going nowhere very slow and will miss my meeting.  Good times.  One major accident caused about 3 extra accidents along the road...yep, it's one of those mornings.  Things turned out okay at work though...my meeting still happened with the student because she skipped class and the other meeting I had with a colleague got canceled because she was running late too.  Sometimes things work out for the best.
